Life in a Northern Town!

Kjære familie og venner,

This week we got to see the Northern Lights! We were on splits in Tromsø, which is the most northern sister missionary area in the world! We definitely experienced splits miracles. Together with Søster Doxey and Søster Stocks, we got 5 DATS (a missionary tool to get an appointment from a street contact or tracting) aka appointments! Plus, we got to see the Northern Lights! Even many Norwegians haven't seen the Northern Lights because of cloudy weather, or of being too south.

Some other fun highlights:

  • We practiced a lesson with a member, Solveig, who is actually from Tromsø.

  • G., an "eternigator" of 12 years, attended sport, the ward party on Saturday, and church on Sunday. He came to the Gospel Principles class when we talked about fasting. We also had a great discussion about the miracles of fasting and how to receive and recognize answers to our prayers. Sally Høgset, a ward missionary, invited him a few months ago to be baptized on 18 nov 2018. G. is still thinking and praying and waiting for an answer. Our ward mission leader is helping to organize a special fast for him and also to get him ministering brothers.

  • Kidus. We taught Kidus, from Ethiopia, at the church. We gave him a church tour, showed him the baptismal font. With Hannah from the ward with us, we reviewed the Restoration and the way to know if something is true (or his specific question is how to know if someone is a true prophet). We watched President Nelson's message from last October with Kidus and Hannah. We thought his message of the Book of Mormons and experience with the king in Africa would resonate with Kidus. Kidus said that President Nelson has "the grace" of a prophet. We invited him to pray if President Nelson is a true prophet of God!

  • We invited Mir to the ward party, a talent show, and he came! We taught him the Restoration recently.

  • At the ward talent show, we talked with several members who had brought non-member friends! We were able to start making some friendships, and have plans to follow up with those members about their friends. We've gotten nothing but positive feedback about the event. The members and their friends loved it! The ward talent show consisted of ten members of the ward who picked a "talent" from a hat and had three weeks to prepare their talent. From dance, to singing, to sketches, it was hilarious! For example, two of the young men danced to "All the Single Ladies". Evelyn Isaksen won the talent show with her ventriloquy!

Have a great week! Søster Brimhall
