Dear Family and Friends!
A special happy birthday to my brother Nathan (January 14) and my Norwegian Grandpa Ells (January 15)!
In honor of them, Søster Livingstone and I learned and recorded the Norwegian birthday song! The lyrics are below. I almost dropped the camera at the end of the video, so it gets a little loud at the end. Enjoy! Gratulere! In English: Hurray for you who fills your year! Yes, we will congratulate you! Hey! We all stand in a circle around you, and see, now will we march! Bow, we turn around, dance for you with a jump, skip, and jump. We wish you from the heart all good things! And I say now what more could you want? Congratulations!
I have been thinking about my Norwegian grandpa, Grandpa Ells. He was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He came to know for himself the Book of Mormon is true when he read and pondered 2 Nephi 33:10 which says, "And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good." I know, like my grandfather, that the Book of Mormon is true! If you are not sure, or haven't felt the Spirit confirm it to you in a while, ask! Ask God in the name of Christ if the Book of Mormon is true. Heavenly Father will manifest the truth of it unto us by the power of the Holy Ghost.
As many of you know, President and Prophet Thomas S. Monson passed away. As I studied both President Monson's and President Nelson's last talks in General Conference, I learned more about the power of the Book of Mormon. As we study in the Book of Mormon, ponder the teachings it contains, and pray about it to know if it is true, we will know with a surety they are true. As a respresentative of Jesus Christ, I echo the words of President Monson and President Nelson, that the Book of Mormon testifies of the reality, mission, life, and teachings of the Savior Jesus Christ. We will come nearer to God by studying the Book of Mormon than any other book (Introduction to the Book of Mormon, quote by Joseph Smith). President Monson was a true prophet of God, and I likewise sustain President Nelson.
No matter who the prophet is on the earth, it is Jesus Christ who stands at the helm. His message remains the same. I testify He lives and loves each of us!
Have a great week!
Med kjærlighet,
Søster Brimhall

1. Norwegian currency. 8 kroner is about 1 USD. They have a viking ship printed on the 20 kroner coin!
2. Avaldsnes Norwegian church. This is a church from the 1500s, around the time of King Harald. It is not very far from our house! 3. View of the water from our front window! Our house shakes went boats go by!
