Sending love from Bergen!

Sending love from Bergen!

Some highlights:

  1. A new investigator! A man called us on Thursday. He had lived in Mo i Rana (where my ancestors are from!) and was taught by the missionaries there in 1998. Since, his wife died and moved to Bergen to live closer to his daughter. His daughter got a pass along card from the missionaries, which is the number he called us on. He was interested in learning the Gospel, so we began to teach him the Plan of Salvation! It was a finding miracle!

  2. Speaking Tagalog in Norway. I started talking to a woman on the Bybanen (public transportation) and she only spoke English and Norwegian. After getting to know her a little bit, I whipped out one of the only Tagalog phrases I know, which my roommate Laura from BYU taught me: "I saw a pillar of light..." from the Joseph Smith's account in the First Vision. That was a fun moment for me and fun for her to hear something in her native language!

  3. 50th anniversary for the Bergen church building! In 1967, the Bergen church meetinghouse was finished. The members built it themselves. We celebrated the 50 years with a ward party on Friday. Ward members came to the party dressed in 60's clothes and we had a great time! Eldste Jensen (a senior missionary in Bergen) played a trumpet piece for us. He had been a junior missionary in Bergen when the building had finished construction 50 years ago. He played a piece that he had played 50 years ago! What a special event!

"A prayer of faith begins when you say amen". -Elder Bednar

This week, I've worked on making my prayers more faith-filled. I know that as we approach Heavenly Father in prayer sincerely, with faith in Jesus Christ, and a willingness to act on answers we receive from Him, He will bless us with all things that are expedient in Him. We can expect miracles, if we do our best and rely on the Savior (2 Nephi 25:23). Prayer can be a refreshing experience, one in which we become more acquainted with Heavenly Father and draw upon His love to strengthen and fuel us up for the challenges we face.

Have a great week!

Love,

Søster Brimhall

  1. How would you like to have your backyard be a fjord? Some members literally do!

  2. The bishop, bishop's wife and his kids dressed in 60's clothes singing 60's songs for our ward party. I didn't even recognize our bishop until he took his wig off (on the far right)!

  3. A wonderful member family. From right to left, Anna P, and her children Eduardo and Jenny. Jenny is a ward missionary, a recently returned missionary from England. Jenny is instrumental in helping us teach lessons and fellowshipping within the ward!

  4. Another gorgeous view of the fjords!

  5. A cute companionship picture with our Norwegian sweaters!

  6. Eldste Jensen playing his trumpet at the ward party!

  7. Søster Hatch and I carved a pumpkin of Norway!

  8. At the grocery store, customers put their loaf of bread into a slicer machine before they go to the checkout line. Pretty cool!

  9. A Norwegian state church. When people are born, they are automatically added to the state church list, unless they opt out. The state church is Lutheran Christian.

  10. Søstres at zone conference!
